The Science Fiction/Fantasy Area of the Popular Culture Association invites submissions for the 2004 POPULAR CULTURE ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE
April 7-10, 2004 San Antonio, Texas
The Science Fiction and Fantasy (SF/F) Area of PCA solicits papers, paper proposals, and panel proposals from scholars interested in any aspect of SF/F. Any disciplinary method or approach is welcome! Proposals on film, television, and written works are solicited. Some topics we’re particularly interested in this year (but remember, any topic is welcome):
- Film Adaptations of SF/F
- Young Adults' SF/F
- SF/F Gender Representations
- Comedy and SF/F
- Internet SF/F Culture
- SF/F Animation
- Marketing of SF/F
- Genre Crossovers
- Linguistics in SF/F
- Fan Fiction
- Computer Games and Role Playing
Completed papers (15 minute reading time limit) or 250-word abstracts may be sent to the Area Chair (below).
E-mail submissions are highly recommended.
Receipt of all submissions will be acknowledged by e-mail. If you have any questions, e-mail or phone. Deadline is September 15, 2003.
Full panel proposals are welcome; send topic, names, and submissions together.
Independent scholars and undergraduates welcome!
Graduate Students may once again compete for our awards for distinguished graduate submissions (it’s real money!) Please mail three hard copies of your completed paper, following MLA formatting guidelines, to the Area Chair by January 15, 2004.
NOTE: You can only submit proposals to ONE area of the Popular Culture Association Conference--so choose us!
