The following call for papers is for a panel at the 20th Century Literature Conference 2004, at University of Louisville between the 26th and 28th of February 2004. The targeted audience includes researchers working in the fields of Arab diasporic/immigrant literature in the United States, Canada, Europe etc. This call for papers targets researches interested in examining ways in which Arab diasporic writers negotiate issues such as cultural differences, bi-cultural identities, nostalgia, the homeland, among others.

Arab Diasporic Writing: Figurations of Space and Identity
Deadline for abstracts: August 22, 2003
This panel invites presentations that investigate works by Arab
diasporic authors and the ways in which these writers negotiate a space
in their adopted communities, whether they be in the United States,
Europe or Canada, among others. Such investigations can include, but are
not limited to, the following issues:
- Racial categorization
- Citizenship
- Individual vs. communal memory
- Cultural displacement
- Nostalgia
- Bicultural identities
- Transnationalism
