Conference on Abraham Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation

Conference regarding Abraham Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation, the first scholarly conference addressing Lincoln's presidency and the meaning and impact of emancipation ever to be held in the Old South, this event will focus on how the Emancipation Proclamation affected the course of the Civil War, the lives of African-Americans (both free and unfree), what it meant to the cultural, economic, social, and racial attitudes and experiences of southerners living during the 1860s, and what the meaning of emancipation, racial equality, and citizenship were, as experienced and perceived by nineteenth century Americans.
