SUBJECT: Publisher seeking expert consultant for book, Civil War Chronicle
Hello from Jacque Day of Publications International, a book publisher in the Chicago area. I am seeking a consultant for our upcoming Civil War Chronicle. Please read on to see if this is something that would interest you.
Civil War Chronicle will be a 448-page chronological account of the American Civil War. We've done many “chronicle” books in recent years, including our nearly completed Civil Rights Chronicle, our in-development 60s Chronicle, and our award-winning 800-page volume The Holocaust Chronicle. To get an idea of our chronicle format, please feel free to check out our special web site for The Holocaust Chronicle at our website. We set up this site to make the full text of that volume available online, with photos, for educational use and general research.
OUR IDEAL CONSULTANT is a scholar, professor and/or historian with a Ph.D. in American History, and who specializes in the American Civil War. We want a person with a broad historical knowledge of the Civil War, an individual who can guide the book's development. You will have published and lectured widely on the topic, and your credentials will speak for themselves.
THE ROLE OF THE CONSULTANT will be to:
Create a list of highly accurate reference books that the fact-checker can rely on.
Create a working chronological outline from which the book can be based
Create a list of sidebar topics, indicating whether each sidebar should be short, medium, or long (number of sidebars to be determined)
Create a suggested photo/image list
Review the edited, fact-checked manuscript
Review the book in the dummy phase
QUERY GUIDELINES and DEADLINE: To be considered as the consultant for Civil War Chronicle, please submit a written query by Tuesday, July 1 if at all possible. Queries should including the following:
A detailed cover letter.
A curriculum vitae showing your degrees, fields of study, and academic position in your field (i.e. professor, scholar, historian).
A publication list highlighting your publication history in Civil War studies.
Any other materials you feel will exhibit your expertise in Civil War studies.
It’s not necessary to submit writing samples during the query phase. We’ll request those following a successful query. Please submit queries via e-mail to my attention at the email address below, or via fax. Please limit faxes to ten pages.
Due to the nature and scope of this project, we feel it's best to discuss fees over the telephone. Note your fee questions in your initial query. Please include your telephone number and the best time to call.
NOTE TO INTERESTED WRITERS
We will also be seeking contributing writers for this volume. Prospective writer guidelines are being compiled at this time. If you are interested in receiving writer guidelines, please e-mail.
