PRESENCE 2003
The 6th Annual International Workshop on Presence
Aalborg University, Denmark, 6-7-8 October 2003
Academics and practitioners with an interest in research,
theory, and applications related to the concept of presence are
invited to submit their work for presentation at PRESENCE 2003,
at Aalborg University, October 6-7-8, 2003.

presence, the psychological state or subjective perception in
which a person fails to accurately and completely acknowledge the
role of technology in an experience, including the sense of
'being there' experienced by users of advanced media such as
virtual reality.
PRESENCE 2003 is organised by the International Society for

Conference Format:
The goal of the PRESENCE 2003 conference is to bring together
academic researchers in the area of media and presence, content
and technology developers, and interested commercial parties so
they can meet, share experiences, present research, and exchange
ideas.
Following the format of the earlier succesful PRESENCE
workshops, we envision an informal, highly interactive
conference, with a number of distinguished invited speakers,
paper presentations, special sessions on specific topics, poster
sessions, technology and project demonstrations, and moderated
discussions. The facilities allow for plenary as well as parallel
sessions on technology and measurements, respectively. Of course,
ample time will be reserved for informal interactions between all
participants, and a social event will be organised that will
fascilitate this.
How To Submit Work To Be Presented:
Potential contributors are invited to submit an extended
abstract (no more than 4 pages when printed) until August 1. The
abstracts should be in HTML format and submitted online at the
conference website.
The abstracts will be blind-reviewed through the
http://ispr.info/ web site. At least two selected reviewers will
read each submission and contributors will be notified regarding
acceptance on or before September 1.
A collection of documents based on the workshop presentations and
discussion will appear as an electronic publication. Authors of
presentations may also be invited to write up full papers for
submission to a special issue of the journal Presence:
Teleoperators and Virtual Environments.
