‘Across the Great Divide’ will be held in Edinburgh from 18th-21st July 2003. It is the fourth annual conference of Symbiosis, a journal of Anglo-American literary relations. This year the conference is convened by the Edinburgh-based STAR (Scotland’s Transatlantic Relations) Project, and the programme is particularly rich in the area of Scottish studies. A landmark event, ‘Across the Great Divide’ will be the first major academic conference to focus on Scotland’s transatlantic relations. The National Library of Scotland (NLS) and the National Museums of Scotland (NMS) are both actively involved in the conference and will be hosting some of the sessions. The conference’s plenary speakers are Professor Amy Kaplan (University of Pennsylvania), Professor Ludmilla Jordanova (University of East Anglia), and Dr. Jenni Calder (formerly of the National Museums of Scotland).
Please visit the STAR site for additional information, including the provisional programme and registration forms.
