12-13 December 2003, University of Aberdeen
The Williamite Universe, in collaboration with the Research Institute for Irish and Scottish Studies (RIISS) and the Centre for Early modern Studies (CEMS), will host a conference on 12 and 13 December 2003 entitled 'Inside Out and Outside In: A New Look at the 17th Century Republic of Letters'. Central theme will be the ideas, characteristics and mechanics of cultural and intellectual life in 17th century Protestant Europe. On the first day, the conference will concentrate on the 'geographical entity' formed by the United Provinces, Britain, Switzerland and parts of Germany and France. Papers are invited on the following topics:
- Individuals, circles and networks operating in the Republic of Letters
- Protestant politics: theory and practice
- Strangers and foreigners in the Republic of Letters
