To commemorate the bicentenary of the death of Robert Emmet, Trinity College Dublin, in association with the Royal Irish Academy, is hosting this interdisciplinary conference. The conference will feature a distinguished international cast of speakers and will be accompanied by an exhibition of artefacts relating to Emmet and by screenings of rare silent film footage.
This conference will re-assess events surrounding the 1803 rising and seek explanations for its extraordinary if delayed impact on the evolution of nationalism in Ireland and Irish-America. And it will explore Emmet’s enduring power as unique political icon in literature, political discourse, theatre and film.
