This meeting will gather women and men that, from different points of view and from different disciplinary perspectives, have analyzed mediation, dialogue and conflict with particular attention to the communicative issues. The discussion will take place on different levels: firstly on the theoretical level, as reflection on the concept of 'other' and 'otherness' on which contemporary anthropology is nowadays debating; secondly on the level of the representation system and on the images of the 'self' and of the 'others'; finally in the mediation practices that in many different contexts are nowadays carried out. The communication problem appears to be the common background that joins and translates all these conflicts.
