High-definition Image Database of Old Photographs of Japan.
Contains 201 photographs of Nagasaki and 300 photographs of other
parts of Japan. These photographs are extremely clear and thus
contain a wealth of information about the urban landscapes, scenery
and customs of the period in which they were taken. In order to tap
into this valuable resource, the database employs high-definition
imaging to maintain a high level of detail even at magnifications
of five to ten times on the computer screen.
The Nagasaki University Library's "Collection of Old Photographs
from the Late Edo and Meiji Periods" is comprised of photographs
of Japan taken from the middle to the end of the 19th century.
This database contains most of the collection numbered 5416.
Completion of this database has made the collection accessible
for worldwide use.
