History: Concepts, Theories and Practice
A new Pearson Education series on key aspects of historical thinking and practice under the General Editorship of Professor Alun Munslow is seeking volume authors. A substantial commitment by the publishers, the series will examine the discipline of history as it is conceived today in an intellectual climate that has increasingly questioned the status of historical knowledge. The series thus encourages authors to explore the nature of historical knowledge within each theme. Authors will be confident in their openness not only to radical developments in their own field, but also willing to help form the agenda for the future.
The following volume titles indicate several areas of historical thinking and practice likely to be addressed:
- Biography and Life Writing
- Class and Social Theory (contracted)
- Environmental History
- Family and Kinship
- Film and the Visual Representation of the Past (contracted)
- Globalisation, International and Comparative History
- History: Concepts, Theories and Practice (contracted)
- Imperialism and Post-Colonialism (contracted)
- Knowledge and Power
- Nationalism and Culture
- Race and Ethnicity
- Religion and History
- Women’s History, Gender and Sexuality
Contributors will acknowledge the unavoidable epistemological dimension to historical thinking and the constitution of historical knowledge as well as demonstrating a detailed understanding of the content of the past, explaining by example the kinds of evidence found within their own field. Aimed broadly at students and professionals accessibility is a key requirement. The target length for each book will be 80,000 words. Each will comprise chapters of 6,000-8,000 words with introductory and concluding chapters, a Guide to Further Reading, a substantial critical Bibliography, and an Index. Black and white illustrative material may be used.
