The 2003 The International Colloquium for Vernacular, Hispanic, Historical, American and Folklore Studies will take place in Puebla, Mexico from 9 to 12 October 2003.

Panels on literatures of the Americas are currently being organized, and papers from all perspectives are welcome. Topics may include: a single writer, or a comparative study; a particular genre; literatures within a popular culture context; or historical pieces which study a particular time period through literature.

The Vernacular Congress began as a cultural section of the Congress of the Americas, which itself was established after the 1994 economic crisis made it difficult for Latin American academics to attend meetings in the United States. The 2001 Congress of the Americas attracted more than 900 papers.
