International Communal Studies Association conference to be held at The Amana Colonies, Iowa, USA
June 28-30, 2004 (Preconference tour June 26-27, 2004).
Our conference theme, "The Communitarian Vision," explores the visions and visionaries that have shaped communal living across time and across the world. Papers might address specific communal leaders, community ideals and philosophies, challenges to the communitarian vision, or the future of communal living. Papers or presentations are welcome on any aspect of communal living, from any historic period, geographic locale, or disciplinary perspective. Additional topics might include gender relations, politics in community, tensions within or beyond community, arts and architecture,
communal literature, children and family, aging, or crafts and industries, among others.
To present a paper or to organize a panel at the conference or to present a film or other creative project, submit a proposal in English by November 1, 2003. Proposals should be limited to one page (about 250 words) and must include the following information: title, author, mailing address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address.
