12th National BETA-IATEFL Conference, 10 to 11 May 2003
Blagoevgrad, South-Western University
THE CHALLENGE OF CHANGE
BETA-IATEFL is pleased to welcome you to the annual national ELT event of 2003 on May 10 and 11 in Blagoevgrad.
The forum is co-run by BETA-IATEFL, the British Council Bulgaria and the South-Western University of Blagoevgrad.
Traditionally there is no restricting theme for the Conference. A broad range of topics will be covered including Teacher Training, Teacher Development, Mentoring, Teaching Young Learners, ESP, Testing, Teaching Literature, English Across the Curriculum, Cultural Studies and many others.
But this year the major focus will be on the different aspects of change concerning ELT in Bulgaria and the region:
- The effects of modern trends in education on ELT
- The changing situation in the state and private sectors - problems and practical solutions
- The challenges of EL Teachers' professional development
- Another important issue at the 12th BETA conference will be the promotion of the 5th IATEFL - East conference 2003. During the conference a networking session with representatives from national associations of neighbouring countries is planned. Possible co-operation activities will be discussed.
The Conference begins Saturday 10 May 2003 at 10.00 and finishes Sunday 12 May 2003 at 6.00. There will be plenaries, presentations, workshops and discussions. A major ELT Book Exhibition will take place at the conference - the latest titles will be available for inspection or purchase at special conference prices throughout the event.
In the late afternoon of Friday 09 May 2003, a trip to Rila Monastery for participants who arrive early is planned. This trip has been organized by the South-Western University. As usual, well-known practitioners in the field of ELT have been invited as key-note speakers.
