English Stories: England seen from the Italian point of view between History and Romance (XVI-XVII Centuries)
Pisa 10-11-12 April 2003
The conference will take place from Thursday 10 April until Saturday 12 April at Pisa (University of Pisa and Scuola Normale Superiore). This conference will seek to investigate the early modern Italian perception of English history. Speakers will examine: XVI and XVII Centuries historical-political novels and plays dedicated to episodes of English history and to English characters (as for example those by Francesco Pona, Carlo della Lengueglia, Antonio Lupis, Giovan Battista Rinuccini; Girolamo Graziani and the many tragedies dedicated to Mary Stuart); historical works on England (as for example those by Gregorio Leti); the relations of the Venetian ambassadors and the cultural importance that the travels of Italian intellectuals in England and of English ones in Italy had to construct the imagine of England in Italy.
