The University of Memphis Department of History is pleased to announce THE FIFTH ANNUAL GRADUATE STUDENT CONFERENCE IN AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY which will be held September 18-20, 2003 on the University of Memphis campus.
Graduate students wishing to present a paper based on original research on any topic in African American history are invited to submit a curriculum vitae and a one-page abstract which discusses the paper's thesis, sources, and conclusions.
We will be recognizing the approaching 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education with a special panel session dedicated to the issue of African American education and the integration of schools. Therefore papers devoted to this and related topics are especially welcome.
All submissions should be received no later than May 31, 2003. Participants will be notified of acceptance by June 15, 2003. Completed papers must be received no later than July 31, 2003, to secure program placement.
All program papers received in a timely manner will be considered for the "Memphis State Eight" best paper honor and monetary award of $300 for first place, $150 for second place, and $75 for third place.
