Invitation to two days of memorial for Prof. Harold G. Marcus
As you will know by now, we have unexpectedly and tragically lost an
important member of our academic and human community, Professor Harold G.
Marcus.
This is an early announcement to invite you and all who wish to come to
two-days of memorial on May 4-5 for our deceased friend and colleague.
The preliminary plan at this time is for the following schedule:
1) Sunday, May 4, circa 1 pm - Unveiling of the memorial stone for
Professor Marcus at the Mt. Hope Cemetery (on Mt. Hope Road in
Lansing). This event is being organized by Harold's widow, Cressida
Marcus.
2) Sunday, May 4, circa 3-7 pm - A Time of Remembrance of Harold Marcus -
At this occasion, we plan to have music, designated and volunteered "open
microphone" remembrances of Harold, and Ethiopian food for all who come, on
the MSU campus.
3) Monday, May 5, circa 10 am-noon - A Seminar on "Ethiopian Studies and
History: The Contributions of Harold G. Marcus," with prominent Ethiopian.
U.S., and other scholars.
Because MSU commencement ceremonies are on Saturday, May 3, we believe that
hotel rooms are not likely to be available on Friday May 2, with some
greater slack on Saturday night. If you wish to reserve a hotel room on
this weekend, you should do so quickly. We can provide you with
information on potential motels/hotels if you let us know your needs.
