The Cultural Politics of Multiculturalism
The Rothermere American Institute, University of Oxford, invites paper submissions for a one-day conference, “The Cultural Politics of Multiculturalism” to be held in Oxford on Saturday 15 November 2003.
Historians, political scientists, sociologists, and cultural and literary specialists of the United States are all welcome to submit papers. Any topic relating to the history, development, and/or cultural consequences of multiculturalism broadly conceived will be considered. Research that employs comparisons between the United States and other nations is particularly encouraged.
Dr Paul Gilroy, Professor of Sociology and African American Studies at Yale University, will provide the keynote address. Other invited speakers include Desmond King, Andrew W. Mellon Professor of American Government, University of Oxford, and Kenan Malik, freelance writer and author of _The Meaning of Race_.
Proposals should be for individual papers, which will be arranged into disciplinary and interdisciplinary panels. Complete panels will be considered. The deadline for proposals is April 11, 2003.
