(((ECHO))) Survey on Three Mile Island
The accident at Three Mile Island (TMI), near Harrisburg,
Pennsylvania, on March 28, 1979, was the most severe accident at a
commercial nuclear power plant in the United States. The ECHO project
at George Mason University has developed an online survey, which
invites people to share their thoughts about the Three Mile Island
crisis in 1979. What do you recollect about those dramatic days? What
effect did the accident at TMI have on your life? How do you reflect
on the event more than two decades later? Have your views on nuclear
energy shifted since then? Did TMI shape any of these views?
We aim to collect entries from a broad range of people who lived
through those tense days, ranging from residents who lived near the
plant and were directly affected by the accident to people who lived
in a different part of the country and followed the events through the
media. Our aim is to build a free and public database that documents
the history of the Three Mile Island crisis. Our archive will serve as
a resource for scholars and activists alike. In addition to our
survey, we will collect links to the many related websites that
