The School of History at the University of Liverpool has been awarded a British Academy Visiting Lecturer grant. The award will enable us to bring the Restoration scholar Professor Steven N. Zwicker (Department of English, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri) to Liverpool for two weeks in April, 2003, to share his expertise in interdisciplinary research and teaching. In addition to his own background in research and teaching across the disciplines of early modern English literature and history, Professor Zwicker devised and runs the successful and innovative Mellon Foundation-funded program, "Modeling Interdisciplinary Inquiry", at Washington University.
Four events are scheduled during the two weeks. They will enable Professor Zwicker to explore aspects of his work in company with various audiences. We hope those audiences will be as diverse as possible, reflecting the interests of both our university and our local community, as well as the range of Professor Zwicker's interests and engagements. The lectures and seminars that we have scheduled will be of interest to faculty and staff within and beyond the Arts and Social Sciences Faculties, and to undergraduate as well as postgraduate students. We also extend a cordial invitation to other interested parties, academic or non-academic, from the local community and from elsewhere in the region.
