CHS and the Illinois Humanities Council will join forces with the National Endowment for the Humanities as they launch their new initiative, “We the People,” which is designed to help address Americans’ historical “amnesia.” Created at the request of President George W. Bush, “We the People” encourages the teaching, studying, and understanding of American history and culture to help protect the democratic ideals of freedom on which the United States was founded, principles that resonate more strongly today than ever before.
On March 18, 2003, NEH Chairman Dr. Bruce Cole will present a special lecture at the Chicago Historical Society at 6:30 pm in which he will discuss the goals of “We the People.” As a valued friend of the Chicago Historical Society, we cordially invite you to attend Dr. Cole’s lecture.
