SOCIAL ISSUES: AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF CONTROVERSIES, HISTORY, AND DEBATES
M.E. Sharpe, a New York-based academic and reference publisher, and East River Books, a reference book producer, continue to seek contributing scholars for remaining chapter of a multi-volume reference work on critical issues facing the United States in the 21st century. The General Editor is Dr. James Ciment, editor of the award-winning Encyclopedia of American Immigration.
The book will cover defense, educational, economic, environmental, health, legal, labor, political, media, science, ethnic and gender, and general social issues (exs: abortion, campaign finance, global warming, occupational safety, missile defense, student rights, hate crimes, etc…)
Each chapter of the encyclopedia--number of chapters currently estimated at between 150-200--will focus on a single issue and will include a general essay on the subject (covering both the history and current status of the topic, ranging in length from 3,000-5,000 words, depending on the topic); a brief chronology; a glossary of terms; one or two key original documents; statistical tables; and a resource guide for further research (bibliography, website list, etc…)
Chapter contributors will receive full authorial credit, a modest cash honorarium, and a copy of the full encyclopedia set. If you are interested in contributing to this exciting and important reference project, we would be happy to email you a prospectus with a full description of the project, including a table of contents.
You can contact us at via email. If you cannot contribute, please feel free to forward this announcement to any potentially interested scholars (either professors or graduate students).
