Oral History Advanced Summer Institute
AUGUST 10-15, 2003
A one-week advanced institute on the methodology, theory, and practice of oral history designed for graduate students, post-docs, faculty, and independent scholars in all disciplines, planning to use oral history as part of a research project; geared also to community historians and others using oral history. Topics covered: project planning, preparation for interviewing, interview techniques, analysis of completed research projects, and opportunities afforded by digital video and web archiving. The goal of the institute is to strengthen participant's research-focused interviews and to incorporate oral histories into their writing and teaching. The special characteristics of interviews as historical evidence are evaluated and how oral history interviews can broaden and deepen historical interpretation.
Tuition: $700. Housing /meals separate. Application available on ROHO website.
Due April 28.
Twenty four [24] participants will be selected and notified of their acceptance by May 16. The institute will accommodate all special needs of participants.
