On February 21 and 22, 2003, the Civil War comes to Troy State University in Troy, Alabama! The Department of History at Troy State University with the generous support of the Alabama Humanities Foundation announces the First Annual Chancellor's Symposium on Southern History. This year, our theme is "The Civil War: Research and Ideas 140 Years After Vicksburg and Gettysburg."
We will have noted Civil War scholars Dr. Joe Glatthaar, Dr. John Marszalek and Dr. Eric Walther giving descriptions of some of their important research. In addition, the symposium will feature a "mock" Civil War battlefield reenactment, as well as a reading of the Doris Baizley play Shiloh Rules, recently performed at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. All events are free and open to the public.
For more information, contact the Department of History via phone or see our conference website for all the details.
