The University of South Alabama Department of History announces the Howard F. Mahan Symposium on the Colonial Gulf South, to take place in Mobile, Alabama, March 13-15, 2003. The symposium explores the themes of social, economic and cultural interaction among Native peoples, Africans and Europeans (including French, British, and Spanish soldiers and settlers)and theior offspring in the eighteenth-century Gulf South. Speakers include Daniel Usner, Jane Landers, Amy Turner Bushnell, Jack Greene, Robin Fabel, Philip Boucher, Virginia Gould, and Gregory O'Brien, and others.
