Unchained Memories: Readings from the Slave Narratives 6 p.m.
During the 1930s, the WPA’s Federal Writers Project hired writers to travel the country and document the memories of some of the 100,000 former slaves who were still alive. HBO’s documentary Unchained Memories: Readings from the Slave Narratives draws on these interviews, using celebrated African-American actors to bring the words of this last generation of slaves to life. CHS is proud to participate in HBO’s new “Shared History Project” with this special evening program, which will also feature a screening of the film.
