We would like to invite you to participate as a contributor to the Encyclopedia of the Midwest, a project sponsored by The Ohio State University's Institute for Collaborative Research and Public Humanities and funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The print edition will be published by Indiana University Press (2005).
Although many people are intrigued by the question of midwestern regionality, few have actually written about it, in large part because the region is so difficult to define. We view our undertaking as not only an effort to define the region but also as the creation of a foundation for continuing conversations about it. We hope that our contributors will engage scholars and members of the general public in thinking about what the Midwest is and has been imagined to be.
Included is a list of articles for which we need authors. All of these articles will appear in our section called Urban and Suburban Life(but, as this is a list of only the unassigned articles, it is not the full table of contents for the Urban and Suburban Life section). We generally give authors three months to complete their work, and we offer a modest honorarium of 10 cents per word. If you are interested in contributing, please contact the editorial office via email or phone for more information.
