CFP: Conference on African Americans in Illinois
African American Studies program and the School of Continuing Education at Eastern Illinois University will host a conference on “African Americans in Illinois” at Ramada Inn, Mattoon, Illinois from April 11-12, 2003. Topics for presentation and discussion will include (but not limited) to the following:
Slavery and freedom
Religion and religious institutions
African Americans in towns and cities
Family histories and genealogies
African Americans, education and educational institutions
The Civil Rights Movement
Social, economic and political relations
Black businesses and economic development
Museums, archives and historical sites and African American history and culture
Biographies and autobiographies as history
African Americans and the arts- dance, music, art, film, etc.
We welcome papers and media presentations from teachers, college and university professors, independent scholars and community leaders. It is the intention of the organizers to publish selected papers from the conference.
Deadline for proposals is February 28, 2003.
