We are pleased to inform you of the founding of the Schubert Society of the USA, Inc. (SSUSA). As a not-for-profit organization, we are ready to move into an active and progressive mode.
We envision the SSUSA to be an open and collaborative effort by like-minded people from all walks -- a broad and inclusive combination. The immediate goal is for new members to join the SSUSA, complete the organizational structure, develop working committees, and function as a Schubert Society across the USA.
We plan to print a newsletter for the membership and to maintain a web site for anyone wishing to be in touch with the SSUSA. We welcome submissions now to build up a newsletter articles bank comprised of author-copyrighted original material such as scholarly articles and essays; articles of general interest to the membership and other readers; reports of Schubert events; book, CD, and performance announcements and reviews; related news items; and miscellany. Other planned activities will include membership meetings, lectures, Society-sponsored performances, and a national Schubert study day. In time, we hope to produce an annual journal of Schubert studies and other publications.
The SSUSA Mission Statement and Membership Application form may be found at our temporary web site, or you may contact me directly at the postal address indicated. Please join us in making the Schubert Society of the USA a vibrant and enduring presence in American musical life, education, research, and scholarship.
