Critical Media Literacy in Times of War
This Flash site is especially recommended for anyone interested in, teaching, or studying critical thinking, media, political events, U.S. foreign policy. The two primary modules examine
- The "War on Terror"
- U.S. attacks in Iraq in 1991 and 2002
You will find visually-engaging material demonstrating the contradictory stories told by domestic and international media regarding such issues as:
- How many protested the war
- How many civilian casualties estimate
- Effect of snactions on Iraq
If used with students, we estimate that it would take about 1.5 hours to browse through all material. The site encourages discussion of such issues as media blackout, use of sources cited in news stories, absence of press coverage, and how to identify bias in ALL media.
