The Newport International Film Festival announces its call for submissions for the 6th annual festival to be held June 10-15th, 2003 in Newport, Rhode Island. Filmmakers are encouraged to submit features, documentaries and short films for consideration. Application forms can be downloaded at our website, and the deadline for submissions is March 3, 2003.
Among the new programming initiatives for the 2003 festival will be a series of contemporary Portuguese language films. The festival is seeking entries for this series in particular. Other initiatives will include a juried competition devoted solely to first-time feature filmmakers (who are especially encouraged to submit their films); a program of innovative international children’s films; as well as a series of musicals which will showcase standouts from past decades and introduce new films that are transforming and modernizing the genre. Back again will be the well-regarded (and juried) Documentary and Shorts series.
This will be the sixth year that Newport, RI will be home to the festival, with audiences that have come to include well-established filmmakers, representatives from major distribution companies, and film-lovers alike.
