This course in modern spoken and written Tibetan is run by the University of Tibet, and is given entirely in Tibetan. Applications are administered jointly by the University of Columbia and the University of Virginia. It lasts two months from June 1st, with classes four hours a day, five days a week. Cost is just over $1,000 for tuition, visas and accommodation; travel and food are extra. Students must have basic knowledge of Tibetan to join the course. Students live in the University, but can travel around Lhasa outside class time, and further afield as long as they have University approval at weekends or after the course. Deadline for applications for the course is Jan 1, 2003; or late applications by Jan 8th.
