These panels will be a joint session of the SW/TX PCA and the Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment (ASLE).
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Send a 250-word abstract and brief biographical information to the area chair by December 31, 2002. Panel presentations of 3-4 speakers, roundtable sessions, or alternative formats are encouraged. Audiovisual needs (VCR, monitor, 16mm slide projector, overhead projector, etc.) should be included with your proposal. Email submissions are welcome, but please do not include attachments.
TOPICS MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Environmental writing, nature writing, and other literary works through an eco/environmental lens
- A close reading of a particular text (including film)
- An examination of the work of a particular author/director in terms of eco/environmental representations
- Environmental issues within a historical, social, or cultural context
- The rhetoric of preservationists, deep ecologists, and environmental agencies
- Discussions of wilderness or urban ecology
- Ecocritical and environmental pedagogy
- Science and ecocriticism
