MAPPING THE AEROSOL KINGDOM: Two Days of Programming will Feature World-Renowned Artists Discussing the Past, Present, and Future of Aerosol Art
Friday November 22nd and Saturday, November 23rd, the Institute of African American Affairs celebrates the release of Ivor Miller's new book Aerosol Kingdom: Subway Painters of New York City (University Press of Mississippi, 2002) with a two-day event featuring pioneering artists, scholars, and filmmakers as they showcase and discuss the tradition and scope of Aerosol Art.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22ND, 6PM
Scholar Ivor Miller will present his new book, Aerosol Kingdom, and moderate a panel discussion featuring world-famous writers DAZE, DOZE, FUTURA, LADY PINK, and VULCAN, and photographer/filmmakers Charlie Ahearn (Director of Wildstyle and author of Yes Yes Y'all: The Experience Music Project Oral History of Hip-Hop's First Decade) and David Schmidlapp of the IG Times and director of Big Time Operator.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23RD, 1-5PM
Panelists from the previous evening will show slides and illustrations, and field questions about their work.
Both events will be held in Hemmerdinger Hall, located in the NYU Main Building at 100 Washington Square East, and are free of charge and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
In addition to Miller's Aerosol Kingdom, a selection of books showcasing graff's formal and cultural history and present will be available for purchase.
