We are delighted to send you further information about the Durrell School of Corfu 2003 - 22 June - 4 July. If you visit our new website, you will find (on the Links page) a poster which you can print and display. We would be very grateful if you could print off some copies and attach them to your noticeboard and circulate to interested colleagues. The Durrell School of Corfu will be a very stimulating environment next year, with an opening Symposiujm on 'Globalisation and Nationalism'. In the first week, the chief speaker will be Terry Eagleton (22-28 June) and the principal theme will be 'Translation: creating and communicating meaning between cultures', with a working group of writers from Greece, Ireland, Hungary and India. Additional tutorial topics will address Gastronomy, Modernism and Ecology.
In the second week (30 June - 4 July) the chief speaker will be Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, and the principal themes will be 'India as a Post-Colonial Experience' and 'Reading Cultural Landscapes', with additional tutorials on Gastronomy and Modernism.
In each week, field classes will visit the archaeological site and wetland biotope at Butrint (Albania), the native village of Nicholas Gage (author of Eleni ) at Lia (Greek mainland), and several sites associated with Lawrence and Gerald Durrell in Corfu, including the White House at Kalami where Lawrence Durrell wrote The Black Book.

NIGERIA: 2 scholarships
CZECH REPUBLIC: 2 scholarships
HUNGARY: 2 scholarships
The scholarships represent the costs of travel to Corfu, accommodation for 2 weeks, subsistence and tuition fees.
Applicants for these scholarships should be post-graduate students at a third-level institution, and should submit a curriculum vitae, an endorsement from their academic supervisor/head of department, and a brief statement explaining why they believe that the award of the scholarship would be beneficial to their academic career.
The Durrell School of Corfu would welcome nominations for these scholarships.
