The 11th Annual South Texas Ranching Heritage Festival featuring an unique "ranch rodeo," cowboy storytellers, crafts people, folk artists, and the presentation of scholarly papers is scheduled for February 13-15, 2003 at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
The Ranching Heritage Symposium Committee is pleased to announce the continuation of the "Mifflin and Petra Vela Kenedy Ranching Heritage Award" for the best paper by a graduate student. With the sponsorship of the Frost National Bank, a $200 award will be given to the author of the winning paper. The paper will be read at a scholarly paper session and subsequently published in _THE JOURNAL OF SOUTH TEXAS_. The Ranching Heritage Symposium Committee will pay the award recipient's travel expenses up to $300 to Kingsville, Texas.
The presentations of the paper is scheduled for Friday, February 14th, 2003. Papers should deal with some aspect of South Texas Ranching Heritage--history, politics, geography, culture or literature. Three copies of the paper, double spaced in 12 pt. type, must be received by December 31, 2002.
