Call for Papers: Courtauld History of Dress Association Annual Conference
"Fashion and the British Empire"
Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, July 25th-26th, 2003
From the early traders of the East India Company to the Afro-Caribbean passengers on the Windrush, the wearing and commodification of fashion has had a significant role in the lives of those who played a part in the British Empire. Papers should draw on a wide variety of approaches; from general attitudes to dress, to specific documentation; from personal accounts, to the influence that dress worn in the Empire has had on the 'mother' country of Britain.
