The IRADAC Works in Progress Conference highlights some of the most engaging research into the black experience that is ongoing within the CUNY community. We welcome students, educators, and the community at-large to join us in discussing and exchanging ideas regarding the study of the African Diaspora. Lunch and a reception at the conclusion of the conference are included in the conference price of $25.00.

Fourteen workshops will run throughout the day. A brief listing of some of the panels is as follows: The Role of Higher Education Institutes and the Community’s Well Being, The Many Faces of Mentoring, Race Class and Lynching, Paul Robeson, Flying Words and Flying Africans, The Black Arts Movement, The Tangled Roots of African Americans and Findings on U.S. Foreign Policy toward South Africa.
The keynote speaker for the event is Harold P. Freeman, MD, Medical Director, The Polo Ralph Lauren Cancer Center and Director of Surgery, North General Hospital in Harlem, New York. Dr. Freeman will discuss his groundbreaking report that explores the many health issues affecting the residents of Harlem.
The Institute for Research on the African Diaspora in the Americas and the Caribbean (IRADAC) is a major research institute concerned with the study of the history, culture, conditions, and development of people of African descent. IRADAC was founded to address the African presence in the Americas through scholarly research and public programs for the betterment of the lay public as well as the academic community.
