"Decline and Fall? Catholicism Since 1950 in the United States, the Republic of Ireland, and Quebec"
A multi-disciplinary conference, with panelists from the disciplines of history, sociology, religious studies and anthropology, exploring the state of Catholicism since 1950 in the U.S., the Republic of Ireland and Quebec. The various papers will chart trends in religious practice and belief, vocations to the priesthood and religious life, attendance at Catholic schools and colleges, support for Church teaching in the social, political and sexual realms--and the multiple "reasons why." A final panel will examine these trends in comparative perspective.
Panelists include: Scott Appleby and James Davidson (on the U.S.); Dermot Keogh and Lawrence Taylor (on Ireland); Kevin Christiano and Michael Gauvreau (on Quebec); Gregory Baum and Michele Dillon (comparative perspective.)
