Whistler Centenary Conference
3-6 September 2003
Glasgow, Scotland
CALL FOR PAPERS
In 2003, the University of Glasgow celebrates the centenary of the artist James McNeill Whistler (1834-1903) with a festival of exhibitions and other public events. To mark the occasion and the publication of an electronic edition of his correspondence, the Centre for Whistler Studies is hosting an international conference
We invite 25-30 minute papers on the following themes:
Whistler today
Whistler and other artists
Studio practice/conservation issues
Whistler's correspondence
Whistler and the Web
We seek papers that review current developments in Whistler studies, explore Whistler's relationship with modernism and/or other artists or examine Whistler's studio practice. We are interested in hearing from those with a particular interest in Whistler's correspondence or that of other late nineteenth century artists. We are also interested in contributions from other areas of late nineteenth-century art history, particularly web-based documentary projects.
For further information, see our website.
Please send proposals to Dr Patricia de Montfort by 30 NOVEMBER 2002
