The University of Southern Mississippi, Center for the Study of the Gulf South is pleased to announce a call for papers for "In and Around the Gulf of Mexico: A Graduate Research Conference." This conference, to be held on April 25-26, 2003 at the USM Gulf Park facilities in Long Beach, MS, is specifically devoted to the scholarly work of graduate students and recent PhDs. While established historians will act as panel chairs and discussants, the conference will be further distinguished by the involvement of archivists and directors from research libraries and archives located throughout the Gulf South. Topics and time period are open, but all papers must deal directly with some aspect of the history of the geographical area surrounding the Gulf of Mexico (the Gulf states of the USA, Cuba, and the Gulf regions of Mexico). Interested graduate students and recent PhDs need to send a short paper abstract and a brief vitae by December 15, 2002 to:
