We are pleased to announce that the second Champlain-St. Lawrence Seminar in Early American Studies will be held on Monday, October 21st, from 3-5PM. Dr. Allan Greer of the University of Toronto will present a paper entitled “Body And Soul: Flagellant Catholicism in Seventeenth-Century Kahnawake”.
Dr. Greer will briefly introduce the paper, and set it in the context of his book-length project on Kateri Tekakwitha. Thereafter, the discussion will revolve around a pre-circulated text.
We will meet at the McCord Museum, which is located in downtown Montreal, right next to the McGill University campus. A dinner/reception will follow in a nearby restaurant.
The first Champlain-St.Lawrence Seminar was held on September 9 in Plattsburgh, and centered on Dr. Colin Calloway’s recent work. It generated a lively discussion among historically minded scholars from a variety of disciplines, and from both sides of the border. We are greatly looking forward to repeating this joint venture between the Departments of History at McGill University and the State University of New York, Plattsburgh.
Please let us know if you plan to attend on October 21. To obtain a copy of Dr. Greer’s paper, make dinner reservations, or obtain directions, contact either Dr. Catherine Desbarats or Dr. Jim Rice.
