Graduate Student Conference of the Department of Anthropology, seeks papers/performances/film etc. from a range of perspectives, to participate in a Winter symposium on: INTENSITIES.
A forum exploring intersections, plateaus, sites and conjunctures of bodies, forces, affects and the oscillations of capitalism and desire. By intensities we mean to provoke reflection and reaction about ways in which experience is muted only to explode in a flash of intensity, a fleeting moment in which the impact of the Real hits the body with an affective force that is unconstrained. The moment of intensity opens up a political space, one based on its immanence to the exercise of power and relation to ethics. The event of intensity also leaves the trace in which representation must (re)locate itself creatively. Possible organizing rubrics include: trauma, excess, bodily modifications, de-oedipalized sexualities, abjectness, posthumanity, ethics, haunting, repetition, the uncanny, spectacle, technology, ruins, monuments, memorials, nostalgia, performativity, poetics.
