Facts on File, Inc., a major publisher of reference and other books for students, teachers and professors, librarians, and general readers, is seeking authors for new titles in its Handbook to Life series of reference books on past civilizations, empires, and cultures. Existing books in the series include handbooks to life in ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, ancient Rome, and the ancient Maya world.
New topics are:
Ancient Indus Valley Civilization
Ancient Japan
Ancient Persia
The Ottoman Empire
The Renaissance
Books should contain about 170,000 words and 70 to 80 b&w photographs, organized alphabetically within sections.
Authors should possess a PhD (or be close to a PhD) in a relevant field, e.g., history or archaeology, be able to write for an audience that includes high school students, be well organized, and be able to complete the manuscript within approximately two years. Books can be written by single authors or by a small team. Residence in the U.S. or Canada is preferred.
Interested persons should email a c.v. and, if possible, existing writing samples. MS Word attachments are preferred.
