ARCHIVES FAIR 2002 - October 10, 2002 - 12 - 7pm

Please join the DC Caucus of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC) for the 5th Annual D.C. Metropolitan Area Archives Fair will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10, from noon to 7:00 p.m. at the Smithsonian Institution's Ripley Center.
The Archives Fair will feature more than 25 exhibits focused on local, national and international history and will showcase regional archival collections. In addition, selections from the many local universities, the Smithsonian Institution's various archival units, National Archives and Records Administration, Marine Corps Research Center, National Academy of Sciences, Library of Congress, Washingtonian Division of the D.C. Public Library, United States Senate Historical Office among others and the will be displayed.
At 2:30 p.m. there will be a lecture by Dr. Thomas Battle, director of the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center at the Howard University. Dr. Battle will discuss the challenges of collecting material that documents African-American history. His talk will be followed by a panel discussion of the problems with and progress in collecting African-American archival materials. The panelists will be Doris Rich (author of Queen Bess: Daredevil Aviator), Paul Silbermann (National Air and Space Museum, Processing Archivist of the Benjamin O. Davis Jr. Papers) and Judith Korey (Felix E. Grant Jazz Archives, University of the District of Columbia, curator).
Directions: Take an Orange or Blue Metro train to the Smithsonian Stop and exit onto the Mall. The entrance to the Ripley Center is between the Smithsonian Castle and the Freer Gallery.
