New York City and the New Deal
November 22, 2002 – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This day-long conference will address the original New Deal, its rollbacks and revivals in the second half of the twentieth century, and its potential as a model for the future. The conference will consist of four sessions. Sessions include: THE OLD NEW DEAL, NEW DEAL DOWNSIDES, THE SLOW PASSING OF THE NEW DEAL and THE NEW NEW DEAL The last of these will focus in part on the proposals in a new book by Professor Mike Wallace, "A New Deal for New York." Panelists will include: THOMAS KESSNER, FRANCES FOX PIVEN, ALAN BRINKLEY, JOSHUA B. FREEMAN, JOHN MOLLENKOPF, ARTHUR SCHLESINGER, JR. and others.
