In conjunction with the exhibition, "Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America," co-sponsored by Emory University and the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site, this international conference will focus scholarly attention on lynching and racial violence both within and beyond the U.S. Papers will be presented from a broad range of disciplines, including legal, social science, and historical perspectives; artistic and literary responses; and community and activist efforts to address racial violence in America. David Levering Lewis will deliver the keynote address, and plenary sessions will feature W. Fitzhugh Brundage, Emma Coleman Jordan, Edward T. Linenthal, and Fath Davis Ruffins. Open to the public; registration required.
