The Center for Austrian Studies is pleased to announce an international, multi-disciplinary conference entitled, "The Environment and Sustainable Development in the New Central Europe: Austria and Its Neighbors." The conference will be held September 18-21, 2002, on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.
The conference panels will provide discussion across national, institutional, and disciplinary boundaries on the major environmental and development issues faced by the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. We anticipate 29 papers from 35 internationally-known scholars--25 Europeans and 10 North Americans--and the participation of a number of business and political leaders.
An integral part of the conference is a half-day business seminar which will draw presenters and participants from the corporate world and government. The seminar will address the challenges to businesses and the commercial opportunities posed by issues of the environment and sustainable development in Central Europe.
