The international conference "Lynching and Racial Violence in America: Histories and Legacies" will focus scholarly attention on lynching and racial violence both within and beyond the United States. Papers will be presented from a broad range of disciplines and will include legal, social science, and historical perspectives; artistic and literary responses; and community and activist efforts to deal with racial violence in America. David Levering Lewis will deliver the keynote address, and plenary sessions will feature Emma Coleman Jordan, Edward T. Linenthal, Leon Litwack, and Fath Davis Ruffins.
