The 18th-Century Scottish Studies Society (www.angelo.edu/org/ecsss) will hold its annual conference in Charleston, South Carolina, 10-12 April 2003, hosted by The Citadel. Proposals are invited for 90-minute panels and 20-minute papers on any topics relating to eighteenth-century Scotland, but particularly on the following three themes: Scotland and the American South; The Scottish Military Tradition; James Beattie: Poet, Philosopher, and Man of Letters (marking the bicentennial of Beattie's death on 18 Aug. 1803). Send one-page abstract and a very brief cv by 15 Oct. 2002 to Richard B. Sher.
